The changes in enzymes and metabolites in mice serum were investigated at intervals of 3, 6, 9, 13 h, and 24 h after intraperitoneal administration of a single dose of 15§·/§¸ of the antimetabolite 6-aminonicotinamide (6-AN). After administration of 6-AN, hyperglycemia reached its maximum at 13 h time period and amylase activity was enhances significantly. A significant decrease of protein concentration was observed after 6h of 6-AN treatment but glutamic oxaloacetate transaminase activity increased only slightly. The cholesterol level increased significantly after 6h of 6-AN administration and remained unchanged throughout later time intervals. The lipase activity increased significantly at 3, 6, 9h and 13h of 6-AN administration, followed by a rapid decline to near control values at later time intervals. Thus, it can be concluded that 6-AN produced a marked influence on levels of some biochemical metabolites such as glucose, protein and cholesterol as well as related enzymes in the serum of mice.
